SUMMER & SUNDAY for Hooligans Magazine

Feeling inspired and excited after visiting Playtime NYC yesterday, a children's fashion tradeshow, meeting new people, checking out so many fantastic brands and their new lines (Not to mention all the pieces I saw that I wish I could squeeze myself into:)

Now rewind to my first shoot after moving to New York: SUMMER & SUNDAY was a shoot that happened just 2 weeks after making New York my new home. In a city full of energy, no boundaries, endless inspiration and millions of people, I couldn't wait to shoot! Introduced to the stylist, Mellany Sanchez, by a friend of a friend, she brought on Lisa Caprio for hair and makeup; my empty Bushwick apartment and rooftop made for the perfect location and the dollar store down the street provided my first pieces of New York furniture (a folding table and chairs) for set up and talent seating (and of course the goggles I couldn't pass up... dollar stores in NY are treasure chests!). 

This is the story of 2 independent and adventurous friends, in that space between kids and young adults, who love the sunshine, fashion and free time. A story inspired by a new chapter, transition, and risk. Thank you to Hooligans Magazine for sharing this series on their blog!

SWEET SUN for Poster Child Magazine

Sitting here in the New York summer, reflecting on the very last shoot that I did before I moved to New York a few months ago... it was the perfect collaborative send-off! Everything came into place perfectly, from Sydney (one of my main Seattle muses) and her fantastic mother, Shara, having a free afternoon from ballet rehearsals & shows to Angalina (someone I have known for over 10 years, but had yet to work with) doing hair and makeup and Tiarra (a friend of a friend) having a gorgeous studio available, then of course the cherry on top was having Poster Child Magazine share it with their readers!

This guy had barely stepped out of the car and I had already started shooting... his style, his smile and his spirit were electric... This shoot was pure flow. Thank you Amnah and Anijae for spending the afternoon with me, and Kristi (his agent) for connecting us!

If all your clothes could only be one color, what color would you choose? White

What is your favorite book? "The Swap"

What is your favorite part of your day/school/activity? Playing Baseball

If the story of YOU became a movie, how would the movie end? "dun dun dun" (doomsday music)

Do you have any jokes to tell me? "Wall. Paper. Get it? hehehehe"

What is the funnies thing you saw today/this week? My mom's face when she saw that I didn't eat my potatoes

How would you describe a perfect day for you? Hitting a home-run in baseball, eat a donut, then play laser tag. That would make my day perfect. I'm not kidding

If you had an airplane to take you on vacation right now, where would you want to go? Barcelona

If you could do something like your Mom/Dad do, what would you want to be able to do? I wanna be like my mom cause she studies really hard and is a good student and I wanna be like my dad and make really good salmon on the grill

When was the last time you laughed really hard? When I laughed at my own joke

If you could wake up tomorrow with a superpower, what superpower would you want to have? Oh my gosh...to fly!

If you could have any 3 wishes granted, what would they be? I would wish to have 1000 more wishes

What is your biggest dream? Become a baseball player

What is your biggest worry? A bug apocalypse  

Where is your favorite place to be? In a card board box

 

WHO AM I?

As a photographer, I have the opportunity to work with such a wide variety of amazing people of all ages and backgrounds. The images I share are always a collaboration between me, my team and the subject and are open to interpretation by the viewer... but here is more, a true behind the scenes to accompany the photos! I AM SYDNEY - Age 11

What is your favorite thing to do?  I love dancing more than anything, but I also love modeling, acting, writing and designing and cooking.
 

If you wrote a book, what would you name the main character and where would he go? I am working on a book right now about a young girl who survives an airplane crash in the Pacific Ocean.

If all your clothes could only be one color, what color would you choose? Black.  It is bold and classic at the same time showing strength in your character and a timeless elegance.
 

What is your biggest dream?  To be on Pointe!  I have been working towards this goal for almost nine years and I am only a few months away from achieving this dream.
 

If you could change your name, would you want to and what name would you choose instead?  I would like to change my name to Willow so that my private life at home and with my friends can stay anonymous from my public life on stage dancing, modeling and acting.

What is your favorite book? I love survival stories like Stranded and The 5th Wave.

What is your favorite food?  Cheese platter with fig and crackers and chocolate mousse.

When was the last time you laughed really hard?  My brother and I always laugh hard together, especially when we are making movies with my puppy Tiki and cat Lilly.
 

What do you want to be when you grow up?  I would love to be a Writer and Producer and to design my own line of clothing one day.
 

If you could change anything in the world, what would you change and how?  If I am able to make a lot of money I would like to start an organization and lead a cause to fight the race to extinction of our plants and animals.  We need more natural habitats and reserves to keep animals safe in their natural environments.  We also need more educational programs that get more people involved in conservation and preservation so that it becomes a way of life.
 

If you could have any 3 wishes granted, what would they be?  #1 To have more wishes.  #2. To grant my first wish.  #3 To be a Billionaire so that I will have the freedom to follow my dreams and help save more animals with the money I have.
